Honey and Olive Oil Tasting in Corfu Like The Greek Gods

Corfu Island has had an ancient olive oil tradition since Classic times. The Venetians improved the olive trees’ growth and production, using and commercialising the olive oil throughout their Empire.

In this tour, you will visit a traditional farm where locals produce organic extra virgin olive oil and honey. Learn about honey production and bee care from a beekeeper, then savour a private tasting of honey, olive oil, and fresh bread in a historic building.

Once you arrive, the local staff will welcome you and you will start touring the farm premises. They will explain everything about the production process: growing, harvesting, and making of the EVOO.

As we approach the honeycombs, more surprises await us. The beekeeper will show our guests how to properly care for the bees and the delicate process of collecting their honey from the wooden boxes by using traditional but very safe and complex equipment.

A few minutes later, the Greek Honey and Olive Oil tasting will be ready inside the main building. You will follow the staff’s explanations about the EVOO characteristics and taste it together with fresh bread and the different types of honey. There are many varieties and these depend on the flowers.

Since ancient times, honey has been used as food, but it was also used as a natural remedy for healing wounds and even for preserving various products.
To learn more about honey, it is important to know that each type depends on the species of flower from which the bee’s nectar has been extracted and the season of the year.

Although there are plants that secrete different substances from which it is possible to obtain honey, for example, oak or holm oak, in general honey comes from the nectar of flowers. Corfiot honey usually comes from thyme, rosemary, lavender, almond, orange and cherry trees. Each type of flower produces a different honey taste.

Glyfada Beach is one of the most popular areas in Corfu, and it’s famous for its golden sand and shallow waters. You will find several beach bars and taverns, but the natural surroundings are stunning!

Take your time to stroll along the seashore, lay on the sand to sunbathe or dive into the refreshing emerald-blue waters of the Ionian Sea.

Oud driver will pick you up at the agreed time and drive you back to the port/your accommodation.
